Utility Results offer a service for the procurement of meter removals – gas meters and electricity meters.
Utility Results have managed electric meter and gas meter removals for multiple different sites over the UK. The majority of these sites are being prepared for demolition to redevelop the site into new builds. One of the pre-demolition requirements is the meter removals for gas and electric.
The electric meter and gas meter removal process has different stages to it:
1. First and foremost, the network provider will need to de-energise the service before the process begins. It is against the law for anyone other than the service provider to carry out these disconnections from the mains, therefore applications must be made for this, which Utility Results can do.
2. Unless obtained previously, Utility Results will obtain the meter point administration number (MPAN) & meter point reference number (MPRN).
3. Utility Results will then contact the energy supplier to request for the removal of the electric & gas meter. Some energy suppliers may charge for this service, but many offer the service free of charge.
4. If the meter removal is chargeable, the payment will need to be paid upfront. If not, the energy supplier will provide a removal date automatically, or contact when there is availability.
5. Once the electric meter or gas meter has been removed from the property, the energy account will be terminated, and any outstanding balances will need to be settled. Utility Results can help manage this process.
Utility Results managed a scheme in Poplar, East London, which was to conduct 178 electric and gas meter removals across two tower blocks. Utility Results contacted up to 14 different energy suppliers to arrange the meter removals.
Due to many electric and gas meters being misplaced, or energy suppliers not recording the final meter readings; Utility Results faced many issues with closing some energy accounts. Energy Suppliers always require evidence of the removal or a meter reading to be able to bill the account correctly. We were able to over come these challenges and successfully remove the meters and close the accounts.
To ensure that the process runs smoothly, it is recommended that photos are taken, and the final meter reading is recorded.
